Ultra-sensitive, cost-effective imaging powered by perovskite technology
HighTechXL is seeking a co-founder to join a new venture developing a breakthrough low-dose X-ray detector powered by perovskite materials. This is a unique opportunity for an entrepreneur with expertise in advanced materials, imaging technologies, or photonics to help transform X-ray imaging for safer, faster, and more cost-effective applications across industries.
The Problem
Traditional X-ray detectors are expensive and rely on rigid, complex architectures. Their limited absorption efficiency forces the use of higher radiation doses, while geometric mismatches and edge artifacts reduce resolution and sensitivity in real-world applications. These challenges make X-ray imaging costly, inflexible, and often unsafe for repeated or sensitive use cases.
The Solution
Our technology uses direct-conversion perovskite diode detectors with a simplified charge-integration readout, minimizing layers and electronics. Because the active films are solution-processed—using scalable methods like printing, blade coating, or slot-die—the fabrication process is faster, cheaper, and more versatile than vacuum-based alternatives.
The result is a detector that is:
A detector has already been fabricated in the laboratory, with successful demonstration of X-ray detection. This validation proves the concept and paves the way for scaling the technology toward real-world applications.
This innovation unlocks opportunities across multiple markets where current X-ray systems fall short:
By combining ultra-sensitivity with affordability, this technology makes safer screening possible at lower radiation doses, while enabling versatile imaging solutions that can adapt to different industries. Beyond cost savings, the real impact lies in improving safety, accessibility, and efficiency for applications ranging from security to healthcare.
The position is based at High Tech Campus Eindhoven, a leading hub for innovation, and you will work closely with HighTechXL’s venture building program to accelerate the technology from lab to market. HighTechXL is now looking for a driven, entrepreneurial co-founder, along with technical and commercial partners, to bring this groundbreaking detector to market.
